Shopping

Discover the shopping delights of IJmuiden and beyond! While IJmuiden may be a small town with a limited number of shops, the Netherlands as a whole is renowned for its diverse shopping experiences. If you’re a shopaholic, consider taking a short trip to nearby Amsterdam or Haarlem. These bustling cities offer a shopper’s paradise, ranging from charming boutiques and craft shops to flagship stores of international brands.

But if you’re in IJmuiden looking for unique souvenirs or gifts for your loved ones back home -who, unfortunately, couldn’t join you on your cruise-, you don’t have to go far. During almost all cruise calls, you’ll find a well-stocked souvenir stand right in the heart of the Felison Cruise Terminal. This stand is an extension of “Groeten uit IJmuiden” (“Greetings from IJmuiden”), IJmuiden’s very own authentic souvenir store, located just a stone’s throw away on the Kennemerboulevard.

Strolling through the center of IJmuiden, you’ll come across various shops and supermarkets that cater to your everyday needs. Just remember that shops in IJmuiden are closed on Sundays and public holidays, except for a few supermarkets.

For a unique shopping experience, consider a visit to the renowned Bazaar, also known as the “Black Market”, in the nearby village of Beverwijk. It’s the largest indoor and outdoor market in Europe, with over a thousand stands and a bustling flea market. Here, you’ll find goods from all corners of the world, brought by traders from near and far. It’s also the perfect place to savor a flavorful oriental meal!

One essential tip for cruisers: almost all cruise lines prohibit bringing alcoholic beverages, and perishable goods like cheese, meat, and fish. Of course, this also goes for any substances that could be considered narcotics. While these items are readily available in the Netherlands, especially in the famous “coffee shops”, it’s crucial to avoid them because bringing these could cause major problems for you, including denial to come back on board. It ain’t about those high seas …
